Sebastián Lelio, Chilean film director, has died at 52

Sebastián Lelio, the Chilean film director, has died at 52 at his home in Santiago. His partner, Amalia Kassai, shared the news and said it was a painful time for the family; no cause was given. Born in Argentina, Lelio moved to Chile as a small child and became one of its best known filmmakers. His film A Fantastic Woman was the first Chilean film to win the Oscar for best international feature, and he also directed Gloria, Gloria Bell, Disobedience and The Wonder. His last film, The Wave, premiered at Cannes in 2025. Please pray for Amalia, for his family, and for the actors and crews who worked beside him as they grieve.
