Carlos Gerena, former Olympic boxer from Puerto Rico, killed in a hit-and-run at 55

Carlos Gerena, known in boxing as El Topo, has died at 55 after being struck by a car while crossing the PR-2 highway in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, on October 26. A second vehicle then ran over him where he lay. Gerena boxed for Puerto Rico at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, turned professional the following year and twice fought for a world title, once against Floyd Mayweather Jr. The World Boxing Organization and fans across Latin America have sent their condolences. Please pray for his family and friends in Puerto Rico as they grieve a sudden and violent loss, and for justice and peace for those left behind.
